Minor edgewear w/ corners bumped on the hardcover volumes w/ light spotting of the covers; light foxing of inside boards; light tanning of the leaves; o/w all volumes in very good condition. William Curry Harllee (1877-1944) was a United States Marine Corps officer from South Carolina. Born in Manatee, Florida, Harllee moved to South Carolina to live with relatives after the death of his parents. He served in the infantry during the Philippine Insurrection and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the US Marine Corps in 1900. He became a career officer advancing to the rank of colonel at his retirement in 1935 and in 1942 to the rank of brigadier general. He researched and wrote much of the Kinfolks work while stationed in New Orleans from 1930 to 1935. He lived in Dillon, S.C. after his retirement and ran for the U.S. Senate against James F. Byrnes in the primary in 1936 but was defeated. He became ill and moved back to Washington until his death in 1944.
